On Thursday, the 13th day of October, 2016, The Board of Magistrates of The Shelby Society, Incorporated, planted a tree on the north lawn of The Old Governor's Mansion on High Street in Frankfort.
An American hornbeam, sometimes called a blue-beech tree, was chosen for the planting. A native Kentucky species, it is a small shade tree, and has pendulous flowers which appear in the spring. Historically its wood has been used for canes, walking sticks, and golf clubs.

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen:
Attached is the Notice and Agenda for the meeting on Thursday, 13 October 2016.
We will begin with our tree planting and photographs at PROMPTLY at 11:30, because we have the landscape personnel present for assistance and a photographer present to take the photographs of both the tree planting and the members of the Board of Magistrates, both for use on the website.
We presently have five applications for approval, so it will be necessary to have a quorum present.
We will discuss an event for the membership and prospective members, and will distribute membership certificates and medals.
Lunch is ten dollars. Let me know what type of sandwich you would like.
PLEASE MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO ATTEND.
